100 Innings of Baseball

100 Innings of Baseball Spectacular
The 100 Innings of Baseball Spectacular was born in 2004. At the time, Curt Schilling was the newest member of the Boston Red Sox and the decision was made to transform this event into a fundraiser for his Curt's Pitch for ALS program to aid in the fight against Lou Gehrig's disease.

The 100 inning marathon game lasted 101 innings and 33 straight hours. The game was extensively researched by the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) and confirmed as the longest game ever. By the end of the 5th Annual Game in 2008, more than $425,000 had been raised from the 100 Innings of Baseball Spectacular.

Bobby Abreu Day was capped with a check presentation for $33,000 to Bobby Abreu on the field at Yankee Stadium before the evening's game.

Overall, the auction was an overwhelming success, raising almost $150,000 for children's charities.

Charity Wines, Longball Vineyards

Charity Wines
Charity Wines hired Charity Hop to enlist several members of the Boston Red Sox to launch three wine brands in June of 2007 under the Longball Vineyards label. The players themselves didn't get a dime, and proceeds went directly to the charity of the player's choice. Since then, more than $400,000 has been raised and about 30 athletes have been scheduled to release wines in 2008 across professional baseball, football and hockey:

Corked Bat Collection   Corked Bat Collection
The Corked Bat Collection are wine decanters shaped to the size of a regulation baseball bat. Each bat holds exactly 750ml of wine, the amount of a standard bottle of wine. The bat is then corked and can be stored for display and future drinking.

Charity Hop founders Brett Rudy and Mike Lembo devised this idea initially as a way to hold the baseball wines from Charity Wines. They started a new company, designed the product from scratch using international manufacturers, and managed all sales and marketing initiatives. These glass decanters are a true novelty.

Curt Schilling Bobble Ankle   Curt Schilling Bobble Ankle Doll
Curt Schilling’s ankle became famous around the world in his gutsy "bloody ankle" performance in 2004 en route to a World Series victory for the Boston Red Sox. The Brockton Rox sought a way to commemorate this feat in an unforgettable fashion. The solution was the Bobble Ankle.

The figurine received a tremendous national buzz and was featured on ESPN’s “Sportscenter,” “Baseball Tonight,” and “Cold Pizza” as well as in publications such as the Sporting News. Between the two charities, more than 5,000 figurines were sold and $56,400 was raised.

Charity Hop founder, Brett Rudy, contacted Hansen's Beverage and 700 bottles of jumbo 24-oz Monster Energy Drink were distributed to Boston. All night long, Monster Energy Drink was distributed to fans to give them energy to get through the cold night. The next morning, energized fans purchased their tickets. Boston Red Sox mascot, Wally the Green Monster, also helped commemorate the historic event.

MTV Made

MTV Made
Charity Hop referred local amateur baseball star, Jonathan Pollard, for MTV's MADE as a "MADE Coach." Pollard's mission was to help Saugus High School's Stephen LaMonica break down sociological and familial stereotypes and transform him from quiet theatre kid into a high school baseball player. For this episode, Jonathan worked with LaMonica, a sophomore student at Saugus High School battling with peer pressures at school and trying to step out of a looming shadow cast by his athletic father.

Charity Hop further was also responsible for generating media interest in the story, as well as for coordinating a private screening party at The Greatest Bar on the April 12, 2008 air date.

Wahconah Park, Pittsfield MA

Pittsfield Baseball Weekend
Many also know Wahconah Park from Jim Bouton's book, Foul Ball, which recounts his trying to save the old park. The Boston Men's Baseball League was looking to play at this historic venue while giving back to the community.

Charity Hop arranged a partnership with the Parks & Recreation Department, the Mayor, the Police Chief and Pittsfield Little League. In 2007, the Boston Men's Baseball League will play a 4-team tournament at Wahconah Park. While two teams are playing, players from the other teams will run youth baseball and softball clinics.

Rockstar Energy Drink

Rockstar Energy Drink
In 2003, Rockstar was a relatively new player in the energy drink category and was looking to promote its brand. Rockstar wanted to launch a sampling program to its predominantly male 18-34 audience, but did not have the budget for sampling programs in cities all over the country.

Charity Hop launched a promotion where Rockstar would deliver 325 cases of energy drink to Tempe Diablo stadium in Phoenix to the largest baseball tournament in the world. From across the country, 325 teams participated. Each player on each team received a sample. By 2005, Rockstar had a #3 market share. Before the event, Rockstar Energy Drink was a relatively unknown beverage.

Signs of the Time

Signs of the Time
Signs of the Time is a 60-minute documentary on the origin of hand signals in baseball scheduled to release Fall 2008. There are several myths in regards to how signals were started, and the film helps to address some of the mysteries that led to umpires giving hand-signals to call plays in the field, base coaches to relay hand signals to players on the field, and catchers to relay hand signals to pitchers.

Charity Hop was hired to provide marketing and public relations support for the film, as well as assist casting a prominent voiceover role. Charity Hop was successful in securing Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss to narrate the film. Further, since one belief is that hand signals were developed to support a deaf ballplayer, Charity Hop is looking to generate support for the hearing-impaired community.

South End Baseball

With few little leagues in the inner-city of Boston, the South End Baseball Program provides 1,000 innercity kids a place to play ball. 100% of funding is from sponsors.

Close to 35 kids aged 8-12 participated in drills and a mini-scrimmage. Players from the Boston Baseball League were on hand to run the clinic. Red Sox' pitching great Luis Tiant also was in attendance.

Boston Cup   Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Boston Cup Baseball Tournament
On Mother's Day 2007, two premier adult baseball leagues in Boston, the Boston Men's Baseball League and the Men's Independent Baseball League, brought their leagues together to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

For these games, by using one umpire rather than the usual two customarily employed, the $75 fee per game the teams saved in umpire fees (along with some personal donations), brought the fundraising total to around $1,500.

Charity Hop founders helped develop the concept, oversee scheduling and manage fundraising collections.
