The tourney was hosted by the Massachusetts Independent Baseball League (MIBL) to raise funds for Marcus Chimbur, a 9-year old boy from Brockton who was diagnosed with Leukemia the day before he was to play in his first all-star game. The MIBL turned to Charity Hop to help coordinate scheduling, player recruiting and fundraising.

Six teams from five different leagues participated, including the Boston Commons from the MABL, the Hyde Park Braves from the BABL, Brockton Legion Post 35, Pembroke AAU, and MIBL A Squad and MIBL B Squad.

There was also a Homerun Derby, where Red Sox legend Oil Can Boyd pitched. Kevin Bell of the Orioles went yard against Boyd, while Kevin Beliveau of the Dodgers also connected. Each participant in the Homerun Derby also had to make a donation to the Marcus Chimbur fund.
