On Saturday, July 27, 2002 at Jim Rice Field (known as mini-Fenway since it is almost an exact replica, Little League style), Charity Hop co-founder Brett Rudy led the Boston Baseball League to host the 1st Annual South End Youth Baseball Camp to improve youth baseball in Boston. With few little leagues in the inner-city of Boston, the South End Baseball Program provides 1,000 kids in the South End and Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Dorchester and Chinatown a place to play ball. 100% of funding is from sponsors. Throughout the day, close to 35 kids aged 8-12 participated in drills and a mini-scrimmage. Players from the Boston Baseball League were on hand to run the clinic. Red Sox' pitching great Luis Tiant also was even in attendance.
