A recent invitation came in the mail to join
in a wine tasting at Fenway Park to benefit various charities. Longball
Vineyards will be serving three wines:
Manny Being Merlot for Manny Ramirez (benefits CHARLEE program)
Schilling Schardonnay for Curt Schilling (benefits Curt's Pitch for ALS)
CaberKnuckle for Tim Wakefield (Benefits Pitching In For Kids).
That,
of course, got us to thinking of other wines we'd like to see, like
Pinot Biggio for Craig Biggio of the Astros or Pee Wee Riesling for the
old Brooklyn Dodger, Pee Wee Reese.
But since we're always in
the middle of the Yankees-Sox here, we need three Yankees wines to
match Longball Vineyards' three Red Sox wines.
Mat-saki for Hideki Matsui.
A-Rod Shiraz for Alex Rodriguez.
Rocket Red for Roger Clemens.
And, even though we haven't tasted them, what's a wine without a review. So here goes the assessment based on nothing:
Manny Being Merlot. Bottle to bottle, you never quite know what you'll get, but this stuff packs a Wallop.
Schilling Schardonnay. This wine is full of itself.
CaberKnuckle.
Medium bodied and versatile, this wine goes well with just about
anything. As they say in baseball, it gives you innings.
Mat-saki. Goes with, what else, Japanese food.
A-Rod Shiraz. Expensive stuff; try the April 2007 vintage for best results.
Rocket Red. Robust but don't open till midyear.
