Mark Buehrle and Derrek Lee to Release Charity Wines this Summer

Mark Buehrle of the White Sox and Derrek Lee of the Cubs unveil their forthcoming wines in Chicago.

Two local baseball heroes have teamed up with Charity Wines to raise some big league dollars for some very worthy causes. The North Side will be represented by slugging first baseman Derrek Lee while the South Side will feature mainstay ace pitcher Mark Buehrle. These men join a strong group of stand-up athletes across the country to launch wine labels in the name of charity. 100% of their proceeds go directly to the charity of the player’s choosing.

Derrek Lee’s CaberLee wine benefits his 1st Touch Foundation, which creates opportunities, positive change, and hope for our youth striving to overcome challenges beyond their control.

Mark Buehrle’s Buehrlot wine benefits the Hope Rescues animal shelter in Alton, Illinois. Mark has been active with organizations helping animals for the majority of his career and has recently become more involved with the Hope Rescues shelter.

The names CaberLee and Buehrlot are word plays on varietals Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and are California appellations. They are expected to retail for about $13 a bottle.

As the baseball season ramps up this April, retailers will have the opportunity to pre-order their stock of both wines for the 2009 season. Retailers who wish to carry the wine should contact the Kameryn Beverage Group, who is managing distribution. In June, the wines will be available to the general public throughout the Chicago area wherever wine is sold, as well as online at www.charitywines.com.

President of Charity Wines, John Corcoran, said: “We are proud and excited to be working these fine athletes in the great city of Chicago. We are expecting a great response from the passionate fan bases of both squads and are excited about the charitable dollars that can be raised in the Windy City and beyond.”

About Charity Wines

After personal tragedies involving friends and family with cancer and heart disease, Andrew Graff and John Corcoran decided to start Charity Wines, a philanthropic division of their Massachusetts based company, VinLozano Imports Inc. With the goal of pairing fine wine with great charities, the Longball Cellars brand was born. Nationwide, more than 30 professional athletes across baseball, football and hockey will have charity wines in 2009. Learn more about Charity Wines.
