Case Study: Public Relations & Talent Procurement

Benjamin Watson “Boosts” Mayor’s Campaign

Objective:

Assist client in supporting City of Boston and Mayor’s Food & Fuel campaign by arranging for a celebrity appearance and assisting in public relations efforts for their key national sponsor.

Strategy:

Charity Hop created a list of top New England athletes that would be a good fit to appear at the event and appeal to the target demographics of event sponsor: Boost Mobile. Charity Hop served as the intermediary between client and athlete to nail down an ideal relationship.

As part of the arrangement, Charity Hop would also reach out to top local radio shows to arrange publicity-generating interviews surrounding the initiative.

Results:

Charity Hop helped to secure New England Patriots tight end Benjamin Watson as a Food & Fuel campaign spokesman. In February of 2009, Watson attended an event at a local Boston community center where he greeted and served food to intercity families, made surprise phone calls to family members who couldn’t attend event, signed autographs, and fielded questions from the media about the campaign.

Charity Hop also arranged for Benjamin to appear on Boston’s WEEI AM 850 – the #1 rated sports station in the country. Benjamin joined the Dale & Holley show for an 11-minute segment discussing the campaign at great length, among other topics.
